CONTENTMENT

CONNOR CIPPOLA

Luke 11:10-11
For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened. Now suppose one of you fathers is asked by his son for a fish; he will not give him a snake instead of a fish, will he?

It is so hard to have true contentment in our lives. The media tells us that we need this new gadget that will break within a month, or this weight loss pill that will just make you sick, or a boyfriend or girlfriend, and then we’ll be happy. But when you finally get that new product or relationship, are you ever actually content for longer than a few days? We immediately crave the next new thing. It’s an endless cycle. But Jesus knows exactly what we need in this life. He knows what makes us happy and He knows the true, deep desires of our hearts. Jesus simply wants us to talk to him about it.

God hears what we ask for, and is more than able to provide it. If you seek after your own desires you will never find contentment, but if you pray and seek the desires of Jesus you will find peace, joy, and contentment like you’ve never experienced before. Does He always give us everything we want? No. He is God and he knows what is truly good for you and what isn’t. Paul says in 2 Corinthians 12:10, “For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” We need to put our trust in him and live a contented life knowing that God has you in his powerful hands.
