1 Timothy 6:17-18

17 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.

If someone were to ask you if you are rich, how would you respond? Did you know that if you live in the United States you are wealthy beyond what most others in the world even dream of? The fact is, the average salary in the U.S. is 99% higher than that of the world’s population. If you live in the United States, and your combined household income is only $10,000.00 a year, you are still richer than 84% of the rest of the world. The problem with many of us is that we don’t believe that we are rich. We tend to focus much more on what we don’t have rather than on what we do have. But face it, the very fact that you have the right and ability to be educated makes you rich. The roof over your head at night, the food on your table, the clothes you wear (outdated or not) make you rich beyond the majority of the world’s population. God has blessed you immeasurably, and as God has blessed you, so you now are to bless others with what you have been given.

God wants you to use what you have to alleviate the hurt and pain of others. He want’s you to love and care for those around you. God wants you to share the good news of Jesus Christ with others, freely sharing and giving of the blessings you have been given. You don’t need Bill Gate’s kind of money to begin helping others. Like Pastor Bryant stated in the video, look at what you have around your house and really begin to think about how you can bless others with what you’ve been blessed with. You can use whatever you have at your disposal right now, whether it’s a dollar bill, taking the time to bake a dessert for someone, sharing something with someone who is in need, etc. The list can go on and on; use whatever you have to bring the good news of God’s love to others.

QUESTION 1. Are you rich? (Explain why or why not)
QUESTION 2. Read 1 Timothy 6:17-18 above. How do these verses impact and change the way you view your wealth?
CHALLENGE: We challenge you to be generous with your riches. Give to those in need, and share the good news of Jesus Christ through your words and your blessings.
