Joel 2:25-26

“I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten…You will have plenty to eat, until you are full, and you will praise the name of the Lord your God, who has worked wonders for you; never again will my people be shamed.”

I remember the first time God called me to preach a sermon. The pastor of the church I was serving at in Cambodia looked right at me and said with no uncertainty, “Next week you will teach us something about God.” I was terrified. I never thought of myself as a preacher and I usually hated getting up in front of people. As I fretted and worried the whole week leading up to Sunday, my teammate stopped all that in its tracks when he told me, “God knows what he’s doing. He will equip you.”

So I gave my worries and the sermon to God and surprise, surprise, he came through on Sunday. God spoke amazing words of encouragement through me to the Cambodian people. Fear can paralyze us from moving forward with what God has for us. We worry about failing, or looking stupid, but seriously, how bad can it be? Sure, you may fail, but even that is a teaching and growing moment. Pick yourself up and go again; God is right there with you, failures and all.

QUESTION 1. Can you recall a time when God called you to do something scary or hard? Did you do it or did you let fear of failure take the upper hand?
QUESTION 2. What is the worst that can possibly happen if you step out in faith to what God is calling you to? Honestly, is it really that bad?
CHALLENGE: Take a giant leap of faith and let God use you, knowing full well that you could fail, but also that God will be right there with you.
