GOD’S PRESENCE

NICK COCALIS

I was alone and even as a college student I was scared. My parents who have always been by my side were on vacation thousands of miles away. Some of my best friends lived half way across the country. For one of the first times in my life I felt alone. I remember that afternoon lying on a hospital bed, tubes in my arms, the room completely empty and for the first time in my life really crying out to God. I said God—I’m scared. I feel alone and I need to know that things are going to be okay. If you are real please be with me, I need you. I said the prayer out loud right there in the room and in that moment I felt a comfort and a calmness come over me that I had never experienced before. I felt wrapped in God’s arms and a confidence that he was there with me. For the first time in my life I could say I really felt the Holy Spirit.
