Galatians 2:20

I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself up for me.

When we give our lives to Jesus something incredible happens; the Holy Spirit comes and lives inside of us. He gives us strength, guidance, peace, patience, and the list goes on and on. But after we give our lives to Jesus many of us insist on living the same way we did before we were Christians. We still say things, do things, and watch things that we certainly wouldn’t if Jesus were right there with us. But He is, and we quench His voice and power in our lives when we do things that grieve Him.

When we become Christians our lives are no longer ours. We belong to Jesus. Because of that there will be things from our past that we need to get rid of. There may be certain friends, movies, books, or images that we need to avoid. Ask God for guidance in showing you what to avoid and then actually avoid it, don’t just talk about it. By putting to death your old life you are raising Jesus to his rightful place and telling him and the world that he is the most important thing in your life.

QUESTION 1. Is there something distracting you or pulling you away from God?
QUESTION 2. How has your life changed since you gave your life to Jesus? If you can’t think of any way, you may have some work to do.
CHALLENGE: Ask God for guidance in getting rid of the things that may be distracting you from being the best possible witness you can be, as well as the best possible child of God.
