Proverbs 16:9

The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.

While we like to think that we don’t do this, many of us go through life holding on to God with one hand and the world with the other. We may say that we would follow God to the ends of the earth, but in reality there is a limit to what we would do. Would you still follow God if it meant being poor? If you were being threatened? If He asked you to travel to the other side of the world away from family and friends and every comfort you have ever known? The comforts and things of this world that we’re hanging on to keep us from fully serving and following our master.

We must start to let go of the things we love so that we can cling to someone that loves us infinitely more. We cannot serve two masters (Matt.6:24). I truly believe that the more we try to plan our own way the more we shove God to the side and the less effective we become in his kingdom. God tells us that the world and all its possessions, treasures and desires will someday pass away, but those of us who do the will of God will live forever (1 John 2:17). So release your grip on your plans, future, and possessions and give them to God who will take you to new heights and on a wild adventure.

QUESTION 1. What “master” do you serve? Money? Possessions? Comfort?
QUESTION 2. Do you believe that the things you are clinging to are keeping you from living an amazing story with Jesus at the forefront?
CHALLENGE: Whatever you are clinging to, lay it down at the feet of Jesus. Let it go and let Jesus take you on an adventure.
