Psalms 139:13-14

For you formed my inward parts; you wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are your works, and my soul knows it very well.

At some point in our lives we have all desired to be something we’re not. When I was younger I wanted to be an actor, but the problem was that I couldn’t act. Maybe for you it was an astronaut or a firefighter. It could be to be good at sports, or to be the cool bodybuilder kid everyone fawns on, or the cheerleader that always gets invited to the parties. It is so easy to desire to be something we’re not and it’s easy to not like the person God created us to be. Sometimes we feel like maybe God messed up with us.

Think about this though, who are you hurting by not being the person God created you to be? He’s made you to be the most perfect you in the entire world, the best you of all time. No one else can do exactly what you’ve been made to do. What if God means for you to be the person who finds a cure for cancer or writes the next great American novel and you don’t do it? You’re robbing the world of the incredible gift you have and are. As author and pastor, John Piper puts it, “The world doesn’t need more cool, hip, culturally savvy, irrelevant copies of itself.” Stop trying to be something you aren’t and embrace the fearfully and wonderfully made person that God wants and needs you to be.

QUESTION 1. When you were younger what did you want to be when you grew up? As you’ve grown older what is it now? The cool kid? The smart one? The popular party animal?
QUESTION 2. Are you scared of being yourself because others might not accept you?
CHALLENGE: Stop being someone you aren’t and accept who it is you have been created to be. God is going to use you to do incredible things for his kingdom.
