John 15:4

Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

It is so easy to try to do life on our own power. We get it in our heads that we are more than capable of living our lives apart from God. Then we start to get our sense of worth and purpose from others instead of Jesus. When we start to believe those lies we are detaching ourselves from our only true source of strength and power, and we begin to get battered and destroyed by the world.

It is of the utmost importance to stay connected to your true source of life, Jesus Christ. If you believe that you can do it on your own and believe the lies of the world, then you won’t be able to fulfill the purpose God has for your life. I begin every day by praying something like this, “God, you are in control. My identity is in you and I am your beloved son. Give me the strength and guidance that I need for today and today only. My trust is completely in you.” This is so I never forget who is really in control. If you remain in God’s strength and see yourself through his eyes, it’ll be much harder to believe the lies of the world because you’ll be so saturated in his love and guidance.

QUESTION 1. How much of your day do you rely on just yourself? Even for small, trivial matters?
QUESTION 2. How often do you ask God for his strength in any given day?
CHALLENGE: Find those things that fill you with life and that allow you to connect with Christ and do those. Stop believing that you can do it all on your own. You will fail. But with God, anything is possible. Remain in Him.
