Matthew 11:28-29

“Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Accept my teachings and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit, and you will find rest for your lives.”

This verse doesn’t say “Come to me between 5 and 7a.m. and I will give you rest.” For that, I am grateful because I love sleep! There is no time table in which we must come to God in order for him to love us more. God cares more about the position of your heart and mind towards him than anything else when we come. So often we can get caught up in trying to do everything right so we can be godly. However, that isn’t why God wants us to spend time with him.

The truth is, God knows what we need and he knows how to give it to us. That’s why He calls us to come near to Him. He doesn’t tell us to come to Him because He wants to burden us with another item on our daily checklist. He tells us to come to Him because He wants to provide all that we need to make it through each day. What He has to offer us is so much greater than we can imagine. He isn’t just talking about physical rest for our bodies; He wants to offer us a rest that truly satisfies every part of our lives. He knows what you need, so come to Him and let Him provide for you!

QUESTION 1. How do you draw near to God? What difference does it make when you come to Him?
QUESTION 2. What is your attitude toward God when you do come to him?
CHALLENGE: Come to Jesus just the way you are. Let Him fill your needs instead of trying to get them met elsewhere.
