Matthew 19:23-24

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

We have all had those moments in our lives when God blatantly plops someone in our path whom he wants us to love. Maybe you just finished ordering your double quarter pounder with extra cheese and are about to stuff your face with the mouth watering goodness when you notice a homeless man standing by your car as you wait at a stoplight. His sign says he needs food. You know you’re supposed to give it to him; everything in your being is screaming at you to give him your burger, but you can’t do it. You take a bite and keep driving while your guilt takes a bite out of you.

How many times do we have opportunities right in front of us to be more like Christ and we don’t take them? We are so attached to our money or possessions that we can’t even fathom giving them up for Jesus. But when Jesus called his disciples he told them to drop everything and follow him. And you know what they did? They left everything and followed Him. No questions, no telling Jesus, “Not now, just a little later,” or, “Let me finish this first.” It was immediate. Our prayer should always be that our eyes will be open to whom God has for us to love at any given minute and that we would give up everything and follow Him.

QUESTION 1. What are you holding on to: money, possessions, a relationship, etc.?
QUESTION 2. Are you scared of what God will ask you to give up when you are whole heartedly following him?
CHALLENGE: Rid yourself of those things that are holding you back so that He can have your whole heart.
