Philippians 4:6-7

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Anxiety about the future is something most of us struggle with. We are bombarded with questions from as early as high school about our future career plans, college plans, where we’ll go, who we’ll marry; and the list goes on. It can be so overwhelming. But God tells us to be anxious about nothing. Easier said than done, right?

Our culture conditions us to be worriers, but as followers of Jesus we should never let worry work itself in, because once it’s there it doesn’t easily leave. God promises over and over again in the Bible that he will take care of us. He even takes care of each and every bird (Matt. 10:29), so how much better will He take care of his children?

This doesn’t mean that we should just sit back and let God do his thing. No, He wants us to be doers. He wants us to step out in faith. Faith is doing something and trusting that God has you. Sometimes God won’t show you what you’re supposed to do when you ask; in that instance you need to be patient. Ask for God’s peace to transcend and transform your mind during these times and you’ll find that anxiousness fades away.

QUESTION 1. Are you a worrier? What are some things you worry about, even the little things?
QUESTION 2. Have you ever sat back and told God to do his thing and not stepped out in faith? God may be waiting for you to make a move.
CHALLENGE: Ask God for peace, the kind of peace that transcends any worldly problem; and he will give it to you.
