Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

I loved playing tag as a kid. Well, as a matter of fact, I still do. My friends and I used to come up with a bunch of varieties of the game in order to mix it up, but it seemed we would always play tag. As a kid, it was the closest I experienced to an adrenaline rush as I ran for my life for the sake of not getting tagged. No matter how intense the games got, I always knew I had that one ounce of security that I could run to if necessary: base.

I remember countless times when someone would make up a “base” just to avoid being tagged. It offered such a strong sense of security to know that there was one spot in all of the playground where I would be safe from the chaos of the game. It was my refuge.

Life can get incredibly chaotic sometimes. There are things going on around us that are out of our control; it seems as though everyone is out to get you. It can be hard just to get your feet firmly planted at times. However, there is a “base” that you can run to that is safe and secure. God promises to be our shelter, or refuge, whenever we need him. He is always there and He never breaks His promises. He will restore your strength when you run to Him.
