CODY WESTON

1 Kings 19:11-12

So he said, “Go forth and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord was passing by! And a great and strong wind was rending the mountains and breaking in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a sound of a gentle blowing.

In the noise of life it can be so hard to hear God. We pack our days full of things we have to get done and then go, go, go all day until we hit the pillow, and then our minds are thinking about tomorrow. Where does God fit in all this? All the while God is telling us to slow down and listen to him, though we are much too busy for that.

Do you make time during your busy schedule to just sit and be with God? It’s hard, isn’t it? Our minds just can’t slow down. We have to be intentional in making that time or pretty soon we find it has been weeks without saying a single word to our Creator.

Find some time every day, whether in the morning before you start your day or in the evening when all is done, to spend quiet time talking with God. He has so much to say to us but we have almost completely drowned out His voice with our noise. Quiet yourself for a while each day and bask in the peace and wisdom of your Father who will show you exactly what you need to do with each and every busy day.

QUESTION 1. How often do you spend time with God? A few times a week? Only on Sundays?
QUESTION 2. Is it hard for you to just be still and quiet for a while? Ask God to help you quiet your mind.
CHALLENGE: In the craziness of your life, look for the small, quiet moments where God is moving. Make specific time and space to listen to the low whisper of God and you will find your life richly blessed because of it.
