James 4:8

Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

What are some ways you stay close with your best friend? You probably hang out every day or every few days, talk on the phone if you don’t get to see them, maybe buy them something once in a while, and text them throughout the day. What are some ways you stay close with God? Do you stay close by going to church once a week? Maybe listening to sermons while driving to school? While these are good things, this is the extent most people go to in their relationship with God.

Most of you have experienced a time when you haven’t seen your best friend in a few days. You feel disconnected from them and it doesn’t feel right; well, it is the same with God. When we don’t spend time with Him we become disconnected and everything feels off. God says when we draw near to him then he will draw near to us; it’s time we reconnect with our Savior.

If your relationship with God has been broken for awhile [EITHER broken for a while {noun}OR broken awhile{adverb}], then tell God you are sorry. Pour your heart out to Him and let Him know everything that is consuming your mind. And don’t worry; He can handle it. Start your day off by talking to Him, not checking Facebook, and then read your Bible. Trust me; you will notice a vast difference in your day when you start it out by saturating yourself in His truth and love. Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you.

QUESTION 1. What does your relationship with God look like? Being honest, how often do you pray? How often do you read your Bible or spend time in His presence?
QUESTION 2. What are some tangible things you can put into practice today that will help you draw near to Him?
CHALLENGE: Be in constant communication with God, be in his word, learn more about him, seek him, and as you draw near to him he will draw near to you.
