PRAYER

LEX KHON

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Praying can be hard. Not only are there a thousand distractions that hit you when you try to pray but you can sometimes feel weird talking to someone whom you can’t see. And what if you say something wrong? Yes, it can be awkward, it can be weird, and it can be uncomfortable at first, but keep at it. The more you pray the more comfortable you’ll feel doing it and the more you’ll see God coming through. He says we just need to ask (Matt. 7:7).

Think of prayer not as something where you have to use a lot of flowery Christian phrases, or sound like your pastor, but as a conversation with a friend. Spill your heart out, tell God what’s bothering you, and be honest with him even if you’re suffering from doubts. He already knows everything. He just wants you to talk with Him. There is nothing you can tell him that will shock Him. Prayer is such a great way to maintain a beautiful and close relationship with God. Think about it; you wouldn’t say someone was your friend if you never talked with him or her, so how can you say it about God? Start praying today and listen as God answers you.

QUESTION 1. How often do you talk with God? Be honest with yourself. Is it once a day, once a week, or only when you pray along with your pastor at church?
QUESTION 2. Why is prayer hard for you? Are you too distracted? Do you not know what to say?
CHALLENGE: Take time to pray every day. Find an environment that is good for you, whether it is a walk through the woods or powering down all your devices and sitting in silence. Pray, pray, then pray some more.
