Deuteronomy 31:8

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

In our times of deepest hurt or trouble it’s hard to put our trust in anything but our own strength to get us out of it. We tend to believe that we can get ourselves out of circumstances that are completely beyond our control, such as when someone we love or we become terminally ill.

The verse above was given to the Israelites at a time when they were terrified. They were supposed to finally cross into the Promised Land, but their leader, Moses, would not be going with them, and they would need to take on the armies in the land. Terrified would be an understatement. But Moses told them that God would go into the land before they even took one step in and would be with them every step of the way. God fulfilled his promise to the Israelites.

The same promise is true for us today. In every situation we encounter, God is already there and already knows the outcome. How comforting is that? He is always with us and no matter what He will never say, “Hey, you got this, I’m going to go somewhere else for a little while.” Take this promise with you everywhere you go and know that God is always with you and one step ahead of you.

QUESTION 1. Why is it so hard to believe that God will take care of us in our troubles?
QUESTION 2. Where do you turn to in times of trouble?
CHALLENGE: Turn to God. He is the only one who won’t leave you or forsake you. You don’t ever have to be afraid.
