Psalm 13:5-6

But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me.

You’re at a youth group gathering and everyone around you is getting into the worship. They’re closing their eyes, raising their hands; some are even crying, and then there’s you. You’re just not feeling it tonight and you don’t know why. You want to, but you’re just not there tonight. Because you don’t want to be the odd one out, you decide to fake your worship and just do what everyone else is doing. You’ve just put on a mask. We’ve all done it, but God sees right through it. When you are focusing on those around you, your eyes are not on Jesus.

God has been so good to you; the fact that you are awake today is because of God’s goodness. The fact that you have food and a home is because of God. He doesn’t deserve your fake act; He deserves your all. We need to stop putting on a “Christian show” for everyone around and instead focus on Jesus. If you fix your eyes solely on Him, like the old hymn says, the things of this earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace. You will stop caring about having the right mask on for the right occasion and instead care immensely more about praising Jesus and loving others with all your might.

QUESTION 1. How many masks do you have? Some for youth group? school? home? work?
QUESTION 2. When you talk with God, are you real with him? Or do you try to say all the right Christian things?
CHALLENGE: Don’t be fake with God. He knows. Give Him the praise He deserves and, when you talk with Him, be real. You don’t need a mask to talk with God.
