TRUTH

KAREN MCKINNY

1 John 1:8-9 “If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.”

What comes to mind when you hear the word Christian or Christianity? Now, place that very question into your Google search engine. What are some of the answers that come up? It’s amazing, isn’t it, so many different and diverse answers to the same question.

People who have called themselves Christians have done some unbelievably beautiful things. For example, Christianity, is the largest single provider of healthcare and education in the world, they pioneered modern Social Work, birthed the first orphanages, began the strong push for prison reform, and the list goes on and on (Check out http://christiangoodinsociety.blogspot.com). However, in the name of Christianity, Christians have also done a great deal of damage in the world. For example, have you ever known a Christian who sinned, maybe just by hurting someone else’s feelings, gossiping, stealing things, committing illegal activities, etc? The list can be long, but the point is clear; just because people call themselves a Christian doesn’t mean that they’ve never sinned. The good news is that the Christian God is a loving God and someone who wants to show you and all whom you come into contact with his love! What we do as Christians is a reflection on the one we worship, and don’t think for a moment that people aren’t watching, because they are. The best way to let people know we are Christians is by our love! (John 13:35)

QUESTION 1. Can there be anything negative to say about you as Christian?
QUESTION 2. What are some things you can do today change peoples negative ideas of Christianity?
CHALLENGE: When you hear negativity or bad press about you or your Christianity, don’t be offended, because often times a lot of what is said has some real truth to it. Instead of being offended, find ways to change people’s perception of Christianity by the way you live and share the gospel message. Show people you are a Christian by your love!
